For years, Robert Quinn, doctor of pharmacy, and his wife Lyne Hethrington, an environmental scientist, have personally prescribed to the total body health theory of “well-care” as opposed to “sick-care.” Their goal of providing a new kind of pharmacy that could make traditional and alternative therapies available in a single destination was realized when the couple formed a partnership with Alan Martin, doctor of pharmacy. Alan is a long-time local pharmacist who, with his parents Mick and Carol Martin, was once an owner of Economy Drug Store in downtown San Luis Obispo.

This vision for a new kind of pharmacy was realized when the three founders created Kohana Pharmacy and Center for Regenerative Medicine, a new entity that will allow for the combination of traditional pharmacy services and regenerative medicine. Kohana’s mission states that the center will be the premier provider of pharmacy services including individualized custom formulations, education, consultative services, and personalized regenerative therapies aimed at total body “achieving balance.”

Kohana offers many services that will help provide patients with the opportunity to move into the realm of well-care from sick-care. At the same time, it must be emphasized that Kohana is still a pharmacy. Traditional retail pharmacy prescription services will be provided, including insurance billing, shipping, and delivery services. Additionally, non-sterile compounding will produce patient-specific products including bio-identical hormones, veterinary medication, drugs for pain management, and dermatological formulations, to name a few.
Kohana offers a wide assortment of pharmaceutical-grade supplements. Plus all forms of vitamins, minerals, neutraceuticals, homeopathics, and Chinese medicine are available.

Consultative services will be offered by appointment with both physicians and pharmacists to review a patients personalized approach to total-body healthcare. Diet, exercise, supplements, health history, and current symptoms will be discussed to formulate a well-health plan that may be implemented to accomplish both short- and long-term health goals.
In order to help patients understand the kinds of healthcare opportunities that will be available, education will be a prime focus of the Kohana staff. One-on-one consultations, group seminars, and written and electronic modules will all be made available. The more educated patients are, the better they will be at making informed decisions with regards to their healthcare. The staff at Kohana believe that the state-of-the-art pharmacy services and the extensive regenerative medicine practice at this unique healthcare facility can move you into the realm of well-care, where achieving balance in your life and health is a reality.
